Location
Kuşadası is a lively resort town on Türkiye’s Aegean coast. Its cruise port (Ege Port / Scala Nuova) is right in the centre of town — and, crucially, it is the closest port to the ruins of Ephesus.
How to Arrive
- İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is about 70 km north.
- From the port, Ephesus is roughly 20 km (about 30 minutes) by taxi, tour or dolmuş (shared minibus).
Cruise Terminal & Getting Around
- The terminal (Ege Port) has a large shopping gallery and opens straight onto the seafront promenade and town centre.
- Taxis and tour operators wait at the gate; agree fares in advance.
- Pigeon Island (Güvercinada), with its small fortress, is connected by a causeway beside the port.
What to See
- Ephesus (Efes) — the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre and marble streets.
- The House of the Virgin Mary near Ephesus.
- The Temple of Artemis site at Selçuk (one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world).
- The Isa Bey Mosque and the Ephesus Archaeological Museum in Selçuk.
- Beaches such as Ladies Beach for a relaxed afternoon.
Shopping & Food
The bazaar behind the port sells leather, carpets, jewellery and Turkish delight — bargaining is expected. Seaside restaurants serve fresh Aegean seafood, mezes and gözleme.
Local Tips
- Ephesus has little shade — bring a hat, water and sunscreen.
- Currency is the Turkish lira; emergency number 112.
- The port shopping gallery is persistent; a polite, firm “no thanks” works fine.
