Location
Dubrovnik’s cruise ships dock at Gruž, about 3 km northwest of the walled Old Town. The compact historic core is a UNESCO World Heritage Site ringed by intact medieval walls.
How to Arrive
- Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is about 20 km southeast of the city.
- From the Gruž cruise port to the Old Town it is a short bus, taxi or shuttle ride, or roughly a 30-minute walk along the harbour.
Cruise Terminal & Getting Around
- Gruž is a modern terminal with taxis, buses and tour desks.
- Local buses (lines 1a/1b/3 among others) connect Gruž with Pile Gate at the Old Town.
- The Old Town itself is pedestrian-only — comfortable shoes are a must on the polished stone streets.
What to See
- Walk the City Walls — the signature experience, with views over terracotta roofs and the Adriatic.
- Stradun, the limestone main street, and the Rector’s Palace.
- Mount Srđ cable car for a panorama of the whole city.
- Game of Thrones fans will recognise many Old Town locations as King’s Landing.
Shopping & Food
Look for Croatian lavender products, coral jewellery and local olive oil. Seafood, black risotto (crni rižot) and Dalmatian wines are highlights; cafés line the Stradun.
Local Tips
- City-wall tickets can sell out — go early to beat the heat and the crowds.
- Croatia uses the Euro; emergency number 112.
