River Cruises
Smaller ships, city-centre moorings, a new view every morning.
How river cruising is different
River ships are long, low and carry only a hundred or two guests. They glide through the landscape and usually moor right in the centre of town, so you often step off straight into the old quarter — no tenders, no long transfers. The pace is gentle and the scenery is constant.
The main rivers and routes
- Danube — Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and beyond (Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava).
- Rhine & Moselle — Switzerland to the Netherlands, past castles and vineyards.
- Douro — Portugal's port-wine valley from Porto.
- Seine & Rhône — Paris and Normandy; Lyon and Provence.
- Nile — the temples of ancient Egypt between Luxor and Aswan.
- Mekong — Vietnam and Cambodia.
What a port day looks like
Because the ship docks centrally, many stops are walkable, and included guided walks are the norm. Ships often cruise overnight and arrive somewhere new by breakfast, so you wake up already in the next town.
