Location
Didim sits on Türkiye’s southern Aegean coast in Aydın Province, at the tip of a peninsula between the Gulf of Güllük and the Menderes delta. Its heart for visitors arriving by sea is D-Marin Didim, a large, modern marina, with the lively beach resort of Altınkum right next door.
How to Arrive
- Airports: Bodrum–Milas (BJV) is about 110 km away; İzmir Adnan Menderes (ADB) is around 140 km. Both have transfer services and car hire.
- From the marina it is a short walk or taxi ride into Altınkum and the town centre.
The Marina
D-Marin Didim is one of the largest marinas in the eastern Mediterranean, with hundreds of berths, full technical services, a shopping and dining promenade, and a blue-flag standard. It’s a popular base for Aegean and Dodecanese sailing itineraries.
Nearby highlights
- Temple of Apollo at Didyma — a colossal, remarkably preserved ancient oracle temple, and the town’s signature sight (a few kilometres inland).
- Altınkum beaches — long, shallow, golden-sand bays ideal for families.
- Lake Bafa — a tranquil nature reserve with Byzantine ruins, about an hour away.
- Priene and Miletus — two of the great classical cities of Ionia, an easy day trip.
- Apollon (Apollonas) — the old quarter around the temple, good for a slow wander.
Where to eat & drink
The marina promenade and Altınkum seafront are lined with fish restaurants and meyhanes serving Aegean meze, grilled sea bass and octopus, and plenty of zeytinyağlı (olive-oil vegetable dishes). For something local, try a waterfront breakfast (serpme kahvaltı) and a glass of tea; raki with seafood is the classic evening pairing.
Things to do
- Join a daily boat trip around the bays and islands from the marina.
- Try windsurfing or kitesurfing in the breezy bays nearby.
- Walk the temple site at golden hour, when the columns glow.
- Take a day trip to Priene, Miletus and Didyma together — the classic “three cities” route.
Local tips
- Summers are hot and dry; sightseeing is best in the morning or late afternoon.
- Currency is the Turkish lira; the all-purpose emergency number is 112.
- Agree taxi fares in advance, or use the marina’s recommended transfer desks.
