About Horta Faial Island
Horta, officially the Very Loyal City of Horta, is a city in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores encompassing the island of Faial with its largely green municipality with semi-arid yet fertile hillsides, rising highest away from the city, to the west. About the narrowest width of the island to the east, facing the settlement is the much larger Pico Island noted for wine production. The single-island-municipality’s population in 2021 was 14,334 spread over 173 square kilometres (67 mi2). The city as an urban to suburban mass of no more than a tenth of the island has a population of about 7,000.
